Lipstadt, February 13, 2024- International automotive parts supplier Freihera has successfully developed a groundbreaking headlight concept that cleverly integrates sustainability, functionality, and performance in a cost neutral manner. As a cutting-edge design achievement, this headlight can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by up to 70% throughout the entire product lifecycle, and its weight is only 2 kilograms. Compared with traditional headlights weighing about 5 kilograms, it achieves significant lightweighting. This concept made its global debut at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas earlier this year.

The concept of "sustainable headlights" launched by Freya Hella is based on three core principles: less, better, and longer. Firstly, through innovative design principles, significantly reduce the number of components, eliminate redundant decorative components, and only retain structurally necessary components. Secondly, using bio based plastics or recycled materials, such as materials extracted from recycled beverage bottles. In addition, the SSL48 lighting module is integrated. On the one hand, due to the use of efficient optical lenses in the module, the installation space is significantly reduced. On the other hand, its lighting function is only implemented through software, which reduces the increased workload due to different headlight models and facilitates subsequent upgrades. Thirdly, unlike traditional headlights, it should also be able to replace and repair individual parts to extend the lifespan of the headlights and significantly improve the recovery rate of the components used.

Compared to the current LED headlights on the market, the overall concept design of sustainable headlights is cost neutral, so it can be achieved without additional costs. Especially, the installation of reused components, the reduction in component requirements, and the decrease in total weight will offset the cost of using higher quality materials.
